Hoo boy.

Talk about making an ass of myself.

Looks like my intention to update daily has gone down the drain. No matter! I'll update as and when, but I'll put 'em up, girls and boys.

So, this week we were supposed to do two techniques; 'Slow Mode' and 'Reflections'. And both were really hard to do with compacts... at least, I have a problem with the 'reflection' tech. But after skulking 'round campus for a bit, I got this baby:

I think it's a Nissan Cefiro.   I can safely say that out of over a hundred cars I surveyed, this was the only one that was shiny.  I mean, I saw a brand-new Mercedes and it was caked.  People, look after your cars please.  But the clincher? A window-sticker that had me laughing for a full ten minutes.

"God, please give me the strength to deal with all the idiots who cross my path!"

...Priceless.

So I grabbed a couple of shots, taking note that i was midday and I had no intention of getting sunstroke or skin cancer.  No way.  I think a few people stopped to stare, but I don't really care.  I'm not mental - I'm just a little loony.

Mr. B said the car was nice, but I had to agree that the back part is overexposed.  Partly my fault for taking it at midday, but the sky was blue! And if I waited, the car might have gone away by then! T_T I'm pretty sure it belonged to a parent... I can't imagine a lecturer driving with that hanging in the window.

So that went in under 'reflection' category.  Next up - 'slow mode'.  Now this is a tough one.  My little compact has a max of 1 sec ap,  making it extremely hard to make any trail of movement unless it's at high speed, in pitch darkness.  So first off, I tried using an optical mouse, but the result was not satisfactory.  Next I had two housemates help me with this:

I used two 4-plug extensions and had Miss A and Miss N wave it in front of the cam.  Of course, first I covered it with my hand to get 1 sec ap, the removed it just as the timer counted down.  The result is what you see here... nice ain't it? And since they were doing it close to the floor, the image has a dreamy quality... kind of reminds me of birds just about to land on water.  I took a few more shots, but this is best by far.

But luck! Another model for 'slow mode' popped up (by sheer accident).  Actually I just wanted to see him preen at the cam, but the little tyke went and did his kitty porno at me.  And just when I thought he was done, he did this:

He did it on purpose - I'm sure of it.  Either that or he's psychic.  I prefer to think of the earlier.  Mody, in his un-coperative way, gave me a nice slow mode shot.  I gave him a kitty treat in thanks, though I think he was just fine with an ear scratch.

I got a few more flower shots (photography staple).  Here's some:

Pink jasmines.  There was a whole tree of 'em by the drain.  I must have taken a hundred shots of 'em!

Tha's all for now folks.  Until later!

So after getting a nice spankin-new camera, what do you do with it? Naturally, join the shutterbug club!

In my case, I joined the shutterbug club first before buying a cam (I'm so kechi).  So keeping in mind that I can't show everything to my instructors, I thought it'd be a fun idea to make a photoblog.  At the very least, I can tell the story behind each photo!

This one was taken from the second floor (right in front of our classroom... I know, I know, opportunity knocks right?) The rows of shaped-trees made me think of mushrooms (god help me, I hadn't eaten lunch then) and at the same time reminded me of dwarves.  So I tried a couple of angles, wondering which looked best.  I had to erase the date (a mistake on my part) but I think it's nice.  Though my instructor commented that the composition is off.  I'll try to do better!

The one on the right was taken on a whim.  I have a bit of a problem with POV's... I intented to take that girl beyond the opening, but the motobike popped in after I reviewed my photos on my notebook.  But I like this one, simply because there's that peek of sunlight from the top-right.  Again, date erased.  I did a bad job of it, but I was sleepy and wanted to finish fast.

After that it was a mulling walk around campus, and all I saw were trees, trees, trees.  None of them were IMO interesting enough, though in the end I settled for this one:

I named it Yggdrasil - the Tree of Life (or at least I think so) in Norse Mythology.  Frankly it rather reminded me of a dragon soaring into the sky.  Though I admit this was by far the weirdest - I had to take it while lying down flat on the ground.  Mr. A liked this one, and I have to say I like it too, even if it was a tad bizzare.  I guess one must go through pain to acheive beauty... even in photography.

And the last photo, taken (if you look at the piccy) at nearly sunset.  The photo is of a bird taking a dip in the fountain, and again - it was an accidental subject.  But I like it a lot - not very professional and all, but there's a sense of 'glory' in it.  Might be due to Independance Day coming up and all.

So that's it for the day!
